# Test template

When editing an template, the "Test template" button is shown. This can be used at anytime during the editing of the template, but only changes that have been saved will be used in the test.

It's recommended to test often when adding fields or creating functions. Save and test the template to find any syntax errors early on.

When clicking the test button a modal dialog is shown with the result of the test.

It will show a green checkmark when test pass the checks. For some data types, the test will also show current data. For invoices this means that if there are drafts existing, these will be shown first. And hence, any reference to invoiceNumber will be blank in the test.

It is also possible to get an error message when saving changes. Some errors are caught at this time.
